Cementing Zirconia Crowns has Never Been so Easy

It will probably come as no surprise to hear that zirconium oxide crowns are the #1 most prescribed category of crowns by dentists in the US. With their high flexural strength and fracture toughness, minimally-invasive preparations, and ability to adapt to any margin style; it’s easy to see why dentists put their trust in zirconium oxide. With the introduction of IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime, dentists now have a new all-ceramic with extremely high strength for great durability and high translucency at the incisal third for a life-like appearance.
Ivoclar Vivadent has also introduced a cement designed to be used with IPS e.max ZirCAD Prime and other zirconium oxide restorations. SpeedCEM Plus contains a zirconia primer (10-MDP) in the cement so that dentists and chairside assistants don’t have to remember to treat the crown with a primer prior to cementation. This makes the experience of cementing a zirconium oxide crown feel just like cementing a PFM. Simply try the crown on the tooth, remove and disinfect with Ivoclean. Then dispense the SpeedCEM Plus directly into the crown and seat it on the tooth.
SpeedCEM Plus is a dual-cure material ensuring proper polyermization even when a curing light cannot pass through the zirconium oxide restoration. You can however, light cure for one second at each of the line angles (fig.1) after seating the crown while holding it in place. This will get the cement to its gel state where the excess material can be easily removed in one piece prior to final cure (fig. 2). Cementation doesn’t get much easier than this!
