CAD/CAM: The future of dentistry is digital
IDS 2017 was sensational. Armin Ospelt, Senior Director Global Marketing at Ivoclar Vivadent, gives an account of how he experienced the exhibition and explains the implications of the latest innovations for dental technicians.
Mr Ospelt, how would you describe IDS 2017 in a nutshell?
Armin Ospelt: Once again IDS managed to set new standards. The exhibition delegates were treated to exciting innovations. They obtained fascinating insights into the dental world of today and tomorrow. The event was immensely popular and the delegates showed a great deal of interest in all things dental.
What awaited the visitors at the Ivoclar Vivadent booth?
Armin Ospelt: Ivoclar Vivadent has repositioned itself. In addition to showing our time-tested conventional products and processes, we highlighted our latest CAD/CAM developments at the show. Consequently, we also launched our newly created category brand called Ivoclar Digital, including several portfolio extensions.
What exactly did you present?
Armin Ospelt: In the section of our booth dedicated to our new Ivoclar Digital brand, we showcased our digital expertise and our new product portfolio related to this brand. The CAD/CAM portfolio comprises scanners, software packages, materials and milling machines. We are now in a position to offer integrated digital workflows, which will give operators easy access to digital technology and therefore provide them with the means to heighten their efficiency and productivity.
What is the focal point of Ivoclar Digital?
Armin Ospelt: The PrograMill One digital milling unit represents the most important component of the new brand. It is designed for both dental practices and small dental laboratories. This state-of-the-art machine sets a new benchmark in CAD/CAM technology. It allows dental restorations to be produced quickly and easily using digital manufacturing techniques. PrograMill One is coordinated with the Trios intraoral scanners from 3Shape, which were also on show at our booth. In addition, the Design Studio software from 3Shape optimally connects dental practices with their laboratory partners. As usual we focused our attention on our exceptionally successful IPS e.max system, which comprises both lithium disilicate glass-ceramics and zirconium oxide.
Did your company introduce any innovations in other fields?
Armin Ospelt: We successfully introduced new products in all of our areas of expertise.
