Competence in Esthetics 2015 has come and gone
The “Competence in Esthetics“ symposium took place in Vienna for the third time.
More than 1,700 delegates from 30 countries pre-registered for the event. An addtional 100 people decided to attend on short notice on the day.
Training and education have always been important to Ivoclar Vivadent. Gernot Schuller, Managing Director of Ivoclar Vivadent Austria and Eastern Europe, said that it was the company’s duty and responsibility to supply its customers with tried-and-tested products including the knowledge and expertise needed to use them. This is the main objective of courses and congresses.
International lineup: 18 speakers from 13 countries
The topics of the “Competence in Esthetics“ symposium centred on Digital Smile Design, CAD/CAM and Implant Solutions. The contents of the program were very diverse and in some cases controversial. Eighteen speakers from 13 countries gave their presentations on the main stage. These acclaimed specialists from the dental industry included Dr Peter Schüpbach, Dr Andreas Kurbad, Prof. Dr Thomas Bernhard, Prof. Dr Francesca Vailati and Dr Vincent Arnetzl. In addition, recognized dental laboratory professionals, among them were Jürgen Seeger, Annette von Hajmasy, Hans-Joachim Lotz and August Bruguera, addressed the issues of CAD/CAM and dental laboratory science. An inspirational dentist-dental technician team presentation by Dr Marko Jakovac and Michele Temperani formed a highlight of the event.
Lively discussions due to a wide range of topics
Diverse philosophies and approaches were presented and discussed. A wide variety of subjects was presented: for example, “surgical versus minimally invasive”, “CAD/CAM versus traditional dental lab techniques“ and “teamwork versus chairside methods”. Ideas continued to be exchanged well into the evening at the “Esthetic Party“ where the participants were treated to live music, finger food and wine. The remark of one enthusiastic delegate encapsulated the event: “The many different issues raised at this congress has made this an extremely exciting event. It proves that there is and should be room for everything.“
What sailing can teach us: What makes a winner?
There was also room for a superb presentation by a speaker from outside the dental industry: Dominik Neidhart of the “Alinghi“ sailing crew which won the 31st America’s Cup. He spoke about what it takes to be a winner. He said that there is no such thing as a second place victory in the sport of sailing. Success is dependent on team spirit, respect for one’s competitors and motivation. Openess and the willingness to learn and accept criticism are just as important as crisis management. The contest begins before it starts, in other words, after the race is before the race.
And after the symposium is before the symposium. The next international event to be hosted by Ivoclar Vivadent is the International Expert Symposium. It is entitled “The Quality of Esthetics“ and it will take place in Madrid on 11 June 2016. Further information is provided at www.ivoclarvivadent.com/ies2016.
