Dental photography II: How to select the right lens for you

Fixed focal length or zoom lens?

The better the lens is, the fewer problems you will experience with fuzziness, image noise and distortion. Lenses can be divided into two groups: lenses with a fixed focal length and zoom lenses.

Fixed focal length lenses have a defined focal length that is not adjustable. The frame is the product of the distance between the camera and the object being photographed. Three types of lenses are available in this group: Normal, macro and telephoto lenses.
